New In The Aircraft Salvage Hangar - April 22, 2024

Posted by Clinton McJenkin on Apr 22nd 2024

This week in the BAS disassembly hangar we have a unique group of aircraft - A Kodiak 100 Series II, Cessna 162 Skycatcher, and Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche! We don't see many Kodiaks in our shop. And we don't have many Kodiak parts on our store, not yet! The mechanic team is already turning wrenches on this bird so get in touch if we can be of service.

Kodiak 100

The Kodiak in the BAS shop is a Quest-built 2019 Series II model. It was first flown in October 2004 and certified in 2007. The first Kodiak was delivered in 2008. In 2018, Quest Aircraft launched the Series II, giving the Kodiak a long list of upgrades and improvements over its predecessor - including the addition of the Garmin G1000 NXi instrument panel. The Kodiak seats 10 and has track-mounted seats that are removable, making it a highly useful aircraft. It can also be easily converted into a float plane. Quest Aircraft was purchased by French aircraft manufacturer Daher in 2019 and the Kodiak is still in production today.

We expect to recover a wide range of usable Kodiak parts, such as...

• Garmin G1000 NXi Suite
• Garmin GFC 700 Autopilot
• L-3 Harris ESI-500
• Interior & Seats
• L-3 Harris ESI-500
• Main Gear Assemblies
• Bushwheels & Tires
• Heating and A/C Systems
• Spinner Dome
• Engine Mount
• Steps

• And much, much more

Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche

The Piper PA-30 Twin Comanche is a twin-engine aircraft developed from the single-engine Piper PA-24 Comanche. The first twin-engine concept was flown in 1961, and the retail-ready model was FAA-certified on February 5, 1963. The first production PA-30 was delivered on July 15, 1963. The original PA-30 came in five trim levels: Standard, Custom, Exectuvie, Sportsman, and Professional. Each trim level delivered a series of upgrades, ranging from additional instruments to heavily upgraded interiors.

This original PA-30 variant, a 1964 model, comes to us after a tough landing that included a right-gear collapse and a prop strike. This Twin Comanche will still yield a long, long list of high-demand and highly usable parts that will hit our store soon. The mechanics will start working on this Piper later this week. So we will get a better list of parts and components published as soon as possible. At first glance, we expect to recover a wide range of "good stuff" such as...

• (x2) Lycoming IO-320-C1A Prop Struck
• Garmin GNS 430W GPS
• PS Engineering PMA6000
• Garmin GTX 327 Transponder
• LH Main Gear Assembly
• Nose Gear Assembly
• Nose Gear Doors
• Fuel Pumps & Selector Valves
• Control Wheels
• Rudder
• Horizontal Stabilizers
• Tip Tanks

Cessna 162 Skycatcher

The Cessna 162 Skycatcher is a light-sport aircraft intended for flight training and personal enjoyment. The line was produced from 2009 to 2013, and 192 aircraft were delivered in total. Cessna had as many as 1,200 standing orders for the 162 Skycatcher, but the aircraft never lived up to customer expectations and production was subsequently stopped.

It has been speculated that one reason the 162 never caught on was the decision by Cessna to move manufacturing to China. At the time, Cessna did not have enough domestic production capacity to build the Skycatcher in the US. And the financial analysis revealed that Cessna could save over $70,000 per unit in production costs by producing the aircraft in the Chinese factory. Cessna caused quite a controversy when it announced the Chinese production plan.

The 2011 Cessna 162 Skycatcher in our shop comes to us after sitting in a hangar for a while. It comes to BAS with some nice avionics, a complete interior, a non-prop struck engine, and much more, such as...

• Continental O-200 Engine
• Garmin G300 System
• Garmin SL-40
• Garmin GTX 327 Transponder
• RH & LH Door
• Rudder
• Horizontal Stabilizer
• RH & LH Wing
• LED Nav Lights
• Main Gear Assemblies
• Nose Gear
• Seats
