This week's crop of aircraft in the BAS Disassembly Hangar is quite unique. We usually work on aircraft that hit the ground hard in one way or another, but not this week! One aircraft in the shop was totaled by the recent tornado in Omaha, but, all in all, it is not in terrible condition. We have two that have issues, making them too expensive to get airworthy again. These airplanes are ideal candidates for our surgical disassembly process.

Cessna T303 Crusader

The Cessna T303 Crusader, also known simply as the Cessna 303, was introduced in 1982 as a light twin-engine aircraft by the American manufacturer Cessna. It was designed to be a versatile and reliable aircraft suitable for corporate, charter, and private use. The T303 featured a T-tail configuration, providing improved performance and stability. Despite its promising design, production of the T303 ceased in 1984 after a relatively short production run, with around 200 units built. Today, the Cessna T303 is appreciated for its unique design and capabilities in the light twin-engine aircraft category.


The Cessna T303 Crusader is a unique variant in the Cessna series due to its twin-engine design and its distinctive tail configuration, also known as a "T-tail." This design feature places the horizontal stabilizer and elevator assembly on top of the vertical fin, providing benefits such as reduced tailplane weight and improved performance at high speeds. The T303 variant offers good performance, comfort, and reliability for those looking for a light twin-engine aircraft.

Rockwell Commander 700

The Rockwell 700 is a twin-engine airplane produced by Rockwell International in the late 1970s. It was designed as a mid-sized corporate aircraft capable of accommodating 8 to 12 passengers. The Rockwell 700 featured twin engines mounted on the rear fuselage, providing good performance and fuel efficiency. However, due to challenges in the aviation industry at the time and stiff competition from other aircraft manufacturers, only a limited number of Rockwell 700 aircraft were produced before the program was eventually discontinued.


Rockwell International, originally founded as North American Aviation in 1928, was a major American aerospace and defense company known for its significant contributions to aviation history. The company played a vital role in producing military aircraft during World War II, such as the iconic P-51 Mustang fighter. In the post-war era, Rockwell diversified its portfolio to include spacecraft and commercial aircraft, including the development of the B-1 Lancer bomber and the Space Shuttle program. However, facing industry shifts and financial challenges, Rockwell eventually split into various divisions in the 1990s, with its aerospace and defense units being acquired by other companies. Today, the legacy of Rockwell International lives on through its various technological contributions to aerospace and aviation.

Cessna 177 Cardinal

The Cessna 177 Cardinal is a single-engine, high-wing aircraft manufactured by Cessna Aircraft Company from 1968 to 1978. The Cessna 177 was introduced as a more modern and sleek alternative to the Cessna 172, featuring a distinctive cantilever wing and a futuristic design. This aircraft was notably marketed as a comfortable and efficient four-seat aircraft with good visibility and handling characteristics. Despite initial popularity, production of the Cessna 177 eventually ceased due to various factors, including economic challenges in the aviation industry. The Cessna 177 remains a beloved classic among aviation enthusiasts and private pilots for its unique design and flying qualities.


The 1968 model of the Cessna 177, known as the Cardinal, was unique in several ways. It marked Cessna's entry into a more modern design era, with features such as a distinctive "omni-vision" door with no center door post (and the cantilever wing design, of course). This design provided excellent visibility for the pilot and passengers. Additionally, the 1968 Cessna 177 was the first model year of production for this aircraft, introducing a new aesthetic and engineering approach compared to Cessna's existing lineup at the time. The Cardinal quickly gained popularity among pilots for its sleek looks, spacious cabin, and stable flying characteristics.
