A Cessna T210R and Cessna 414 airplanes in the BAS Aircraft Salvage shop this week
The disassembly hangar at BAS Part Sales has a whole new set of airplanes to work on this week—and some good stuff, too! This week, we’re breaking down a twin Cessna 414 and a rare Cessna T210R. Both aircraft had some issues staying on the runway and found themselves in our shop, where we will recover a healthy list of high-quality parts and components. Engines, avionics, surfaces, landing gear, and more will be available in the store very soon.

Cessna 414

The Cessna 414, a pressurized, light twin-engine transport aircraft, first flew in 1968. Its design drew upon the Cessna 421's fuselage and the Cessna 401's wing, resulting in a low-wing cantilever monoplane with a conventional tail and retractable tricycle landing gear. Powered by two 310 hp Continental TSIO-520-J engines, it offered various seating and avionics configurations. An improved variant, the 414A Chancellor, debuted in 1978, featuring a redesigned, longer-span wing with integral fuel tanks, an extended nose for increased baggage space, and a narrower vertical tail. American Jet Industries also created a turboprop version, the Turbo Star Pressurized 414, in 1974, utilizing Allison 250-B17B engines.

Throughout its production run (1968-1985), the Cessna 414 underwent several modifications, many facilitated by supplemental type certificates that allowed for engine and aerodynamic improvements, including winglets. Various engine conversion options emerged, such as those using Thielert Centurion engines (aviation diesel with FADEC control and improved fuel economy), and the Riley Rocket 414, which featured Lycoming IO-720 engines. The aircraft's history includes a notable accident involving Christian singer Keith Green in 1982, attributed to overloading and improper weight and balance calculations. A total of 1070 Cessna 414 aircraft were built.

The brakes on this 414 failed to stop the aircraft from going off the end of the runway, causing a nose gear collapse. Poor fella! It took some damage, but we will recover a long list of high-quality 414 parts that will help the fleet live on for many years! We expect to recover 414 airplane parts, such as...

Cessna T210R

The Cessna T210R, a turbocharged variant of the Cessna 210 series, represents the culmination of several design evolutions. Its lineage traces back to the early Cessna 210 and 210A models of the late 1950s, featuring a Continental IO-470 engine and four seats. Subsequent redesigns in the 1960s saw increased power, a wider fuselage, and a transition from a strut-braced wing to a cantilever wing (model 210G). The introduction of turbocharged models, like the T210F-H&J and later the T210N, marked a significant increase in performance and capacity. The T210R itself, produced in small quantities from 1985-1986, built on the successful T210N design, incorporating longer-span stabilizers and a more powerful Continental TSIO-520-CE engine, resulting in increased takeoff weight.

The T210R stands out as one of the rarest and most expensive models within the Cessna 210 series. Its limited production run and enhanced capabilities positioned it as a high-end variant, desired for its superior performance over its predecessors. The development of the T210R exemplifies Cessna’s iterative approach to aircraft design, continuously refining performance, handling, and features to meet evolving demands in the general aviation market. While the T210R marked a high point in a long and successful production run, design concerns and maintenance issues eventually led to the discontinuation of the entire 210 series in 1986.

This rare Cessna T210N also overshot the runway and caused some damage. We will still recover a great list of T210R parts from this aircraft, such as...
