New In The Aircraft Salvage Hangar - April 16, 2024

Posted by Clinton McJenkin on Apr 16th 2024

Most of our team was hyper-focused on the Sun N Fun show in Lakeland, FL in early April...with our sales, marketing, and leadership teams all travelign extensively to man the booth and meet our amazing customers down in Florida last week.

This made for a ripe opportunity to send most of the mechanic team on the road to assist in recovering some outstanding airplanes for the disassembly hangar. Dave and The Mechanics are now back in the shop and back to work makig quick work of the disassembly process for several new units. Check out what we are working on in the aircraft salvage hangar this week.

Beechcraft Sierra A-24-R

The Beech 24R is also known as the A24R Sierra 200, and there are three variants: A, B, and C. The Sierra is part of the Musketeer line of aircraft from Beechcraft. The Musketeer line was produced from 1963 through 1983, and over 4,300 units were manufactured. The very first airplane in the Musketeer line was the Model 23.

The A24R was first certified in December 1969 and sold as a 1970 model.  The 24R variant added retractable landing gear to the Musketeer line of aircraft and helped prove the full utility of the 200hp engine. The 24R was renamed the Sierra in 1972 and had a standard price of about $25,000 new.

The Beech 24R in our shop comes to us for a range of reasons but is, overall, in pretty good condition. The cost of some repairs exceeded the owner's desire to spend the time and energy to make it airworthy again. So it will get a careful and detailed disassembly, and the parts will be available in our store very soon. Among many other parts and components, we expect to recover in-demand items such as...

Piper PA-32R-301T Saratoga II TC

In 1980, the turbocharged PA-32R-301T model was given the name Turbo Saratoga SP, and the name remained the same through the 1996 model year, even though quite a few upgrades and improvements were made to the airplane. In 1997, the airplane's name was changed to Saratoga II TC, and it received a new Lycoming TIO-540-AH1A engine. The avionics in the Saratoga were updated several times throughout its lifecycle. The latest update occurred in the mid-2000s when the aircraft was upgraded to Garmin units, and then again in 2007, it was upgraded to the Garmin G1000 system.

The PA-32R began its production run in 1976 with the Piper Lance, a version of the Cherokee Six with retractable landing gear. Eventually, the designation evolved from Lance to Saratoga, with the main difference being the tapered wing of the Saratoga that replaced the "Hershey bar" wing on the Lance. The Saratoga's production ended in 2009.

The Saratoga in our shop had a hard landing that damaged one wing and the belly of the aircraft. This aircraft has some outstanding avionics and a really nice interior. Despite the damage to the aircraft, we will still yield a great list of Piper parts, including...

•    Lycoming TIO-540-AH1A (Prop Struck)
•    (X2) Garmin GTN 750
•    Garmin G500 System
•    S-Tec Fifty Five X AP System
•    New Interior (Super Clean!)
•    Control Wheels
•    Stabilator
•    Vertical Fin
•    Rudder
•    Upper Cowling

Cessna R182 Skylane II

The Cessna R182 Skylane II was produced from 1978 to 1986 and comes with retractable gear and a larger Lycoming power plant. The proper type designation for this aircraft is R182. But the R182 Skylane is commonly referred to as the 182RG thanks to that retractable landing gear.

Cessna introduced the 182 model in 1956 as a variant of the 180. It began production in 1957 as the 182A Skylane. In 1966, the 182 model was considered a "restart" aircraft and received a wide range of updates and improvements. The 182 was also built in Argentina as the A182 and in France as the F182. The 182 is the most popular Cessna model still in production after the 172. The 182 model also has a notable list of countries around the world that have put this aircraft into military service for a wide range of uses.

The R182 in our shop had a forced landing that caused it to impact the ground. This airplane is a little more damaged than we normally see...so we will get less usable parts from it. But we will still get some good stuff if you have an R182 in need.
