Air Tractor AT-502B

Air Tractor Inc., founded in 1978 by Leland Snow, is a United States aircraft manufacturer based in Olney, Texas. Snow's prior experience designing and building agricultural aircraft, beginning with the S-1 in 1951 and culminating in the S-2B, laid the groundwork for Air Tractor. The AT-300, derived from the S-2B, was the company's first aircraft and marked a significant leap in agricultural aviation technology. The company quickly grew, expanding its line of aircraft to encompass various tank capacities and engine types, driven by the demand for efficient and effective crop dusting and spraying solutions.

By 1993, Air Tractor had delivered its 1,100th airplane, necessitating expansion of its Olney facility. The company's success continued, achieving the milestone of 2,000 Snow-designed aircraft by 1998. Air Tractor's commitment to innovation and its focus on turboprop-powered aircraft helped it become a leading manufacturer in the industry, consistently delivering more of these aircraft than any other manufacturer from 2011 to 2018. In 2008, the company transitioned to employee ownership, reflecting Snow's desire to leave a lasting legacy with those who dedicated their skills and passion to its success.

The Air Tractor AT-500 family of agricultural aircraft, first flown in 1986, represents a significant advancement over its predecessors. These low-wing monoplanes feature a larger chemical hopper, accommodated by an increased wingspan and fuselage length. Most variants include a "buddy" seat or tandem seating for a passenger, observer, or loader, with some models even offering full dual controls for training purposes. From 2011 to 2018, the combined AT-500 line (AT-502A, -502B, and -504) was among the world's most popular fixed-wing, single-turboprop agricultural aircraft families, showcasing its widespread use and effectiveness.

The AT-502B is the main production variant of the AT-500 series. Powered by a 750 shp (560 kW) PT6A-34AG engine, it offers seating for one or two pilots in tandem or side-by-side arrangements and boasts a gross weight of 8,000 lb (3,600 kg). It was considered the top-selling agricultural aircraft globally from 2011 to 2018, with 388 units delivered, highlighting its popularity and success in the agricultural aviation market.

This particular AT-502B clipped a tree and was forced to land in a cornfield. The aircraft was damaged and ended up in our shop for disassembly. We will get a great list of Air Tractor parts from this wrecked aircraft, such as...

Piper PA-23-250 Aztec B

The Piper PA-23, later known as the Apache and Aztec, originated in the 1950s as the "Twin Stinson" design, a project inherited by Piper Aircraft when they acquired the Stinson Division of Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation. The initial prototype, a four-seat low-wing monoplane with a twin tail, underwent significant redesign due to poor performance. This involved switching to a single vertical stabilizer, an all-metal rear fuselage, and more powerful Lycoming engines, resulting in the Apache, which entered production in 1954. The Apache line saw several variants, primarily distinguished by engine upgrades and minor design modifications, with production continuing into the 1960s.

The more powerful Aztec model emerged in 1959, featuring 250 hp Lycoming O-540 engines and a swept vertical tail. It quickly became a popular aircraft for general aviation, undergoing further evolution with increased seating capacity, fuel-injected engines, and turbocharged versions for higher altitude operation. Production of the Aztec lasted until 1981, solidifying its place as a significant and successful aircraft in the twin-engine light aircraft market. A notable, albeit unsuccessful, experiment was the pressurized Aztec, intended to improve high-altitude performance, but this design was ultimately abandoned.

The Piper PA-23-250 Aztec, introduced in 1959, represented a significant advancement in the PA-23 line. It incorporated a more powerful engine configuration, utilizing two 250 hp Lycoming O-540 engines, a noticeable improvement over its predecessors. The design also featured a swept vertical tail, enhancing its overall performance characteristics. This model established itself as a mainstay of the PA-23 family, proving popular in various roles, including general aviation, utility transport, and even some military applications.

The PA-23-250 Aztec saw ongoing refinements throughout its production run, leading to several sub-variants like the Aztec B, C, D, E, and F. These iterations incorporated improvements such as enhanced avionics, increased seating capacity (up to six passengers), improved systems, and changes to the fuselage and landing gear for better functionality. The Aztec line maintained its reputation for reliability and versatility, attracting both private and commercial operators, and leaving a lasting legacy in aviation history.

This aircraft was damaged while in the shop for its annual, leading it to our disassembly shop. We will recover a great list of Piper Aztec B parts from this aircraft, such as...

Piper PA-28-161

The Piper PA-28-161 Cherokee Warrior is a four-seat, single-engine, fixed-gear aircraft that became part of the extensive Piper Cherokee family. Initially introduced as the Cherokee 160 and later rebranded as the Warrior, this model's popularity stemmed from its reliability, ease of handling, and relatively low cost compared to its competitors, making it a popular choice for flight training and personal use. The Warrior featured a constant-chord wing (often nicknamed the "Hershey Bar" wing) in its early iterations.

Later models of the PA-28-161 incorporated improvements based on advancements in aviation technology. These updates included changes to the wing design, evolving from a constant-chord to a semi-tapered design, which brought about improved stall characteristics and increased wingspan. This provided better low-speed handling and overall flight performance. Other upgrades often included enhancements to the engine, instrumentation, and overall comfort features to enhance both the pilot and passenger experience.

The PA-28-161 Cherokee Warrior's success was marked by its widespread use among both private owners and flight training schools, leading to thousands being built and delivered. Its versatility as both a trainer and a personal aircraft established it as a significant and recognizable model within Piper's Cherokee family, and it continued to be improved and updated over the years to meet the evolving demands of the general aviation market.

This Piper Cherokee Warrior was totaled during a storm when it was flipped onto its roof. Most of the rest of aircraft is in great shape and we will recover a long list of high-demand Piper parts, such as...
