New In The Aircraft Salvage Hangar - February 13, 2023

Posted by BAS | Aircraft Salvage Experts on Feb 13th 2023

After a couple of weeks of quite a few Cessna 172 tear-downs back to back, we have moved in some fresh new aircraft for disassembly this week. The shop is full of airplanes and wings this week. We have a nice little Cessna 162 Skycatcher that ended up on its roof after landing. A Piper PA-28R-201 that looks like it was hit by a tornado, because it was. And a Mooney 231 (M20K) that was forced to land on a highway, instead of a runway.

The BAS mechanic team is hard at work disassembling these aircraft, so if you see something you need, get in touch quickly. You can always call our team at 970-313-4823 or email Sales@baspartsales.Com.

Cessna 162 Skycatcher

The Cessna Skycatcher was produced from 2009 through 2013 with the intention of selling to flight schools and personal use pilots. Cessna originally ordered 1,200 aircraft but the model was as popular as hoped. Jack Pelton, Cessna President & CEO, originally targeted a price tag of less than $100,000 for the skycatcher but that was never achieved. The original starting price was $109,500 when the 162 hit the market in 2009.

The 162 Skycatcher is designed to be a small, personal-use airplane that carries a crew of one plus one passenger with a range of 470 nmi or 540 miles. It is powered by a Continental O-200D air-cooled engine producing 100hp.

We have the log books and bill of sale for this aircraft. And it comes with some nice avionics...

Piper PA-28R-201 Arrow III

The Piper PA-28R-201 was first certified in November of 1976. That makes this aircraft an Arrow III model with retractable landing gear and sets for 4. This aircraft has a Lycoming IO-360-C1C6R engine producing 200hp. The original PA-28 was certified for flight in 1960 and the line of airplanes remains in production to this day.

This aircraft was subject to wind damage from a tornado so you can imagine some of the surfaces took a beating. The interior on this aircraft is in fantastic condition. The seats are clean and in great shape; even the interior floorboard carpeting looks great. This airplane also comes with dual breaks that will make another Pipe PA28 owner very happy.

We will ge this blog post updated with instruments and avionics as we progress.

1980 Mooney 231 (M20K)

This poor Mooney M20K was forced to land on a highway, which caused some damage to the wings of course. It comes to us with a Continental TSIO-360-LB(1) turbocharged engine and a McCauley prop. The aft fuselage and engine were removed for transport. This M20K model is not impacted by the recently released FAA Airworthiness Directive related to the elevator balance weights that we discussed on our blog recently.

This Mooney model's name is interesting. The M20K model was marketed as the 231 model, a reference to its top speed of 231 mph (201 knots). Also interesting is the fact that in 2017 a pilot named Brian Lloyd flew his M20K 231 around the world to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Amelia Earhart's attempt to circumnavigate the globe. The Wikipedia page for The Mooney M20 is a good read.

The first Mooney M20 took flight in September 1953. The M20K model was produced from 1978 to 1985. The M20 line of Mooney's was produced until the company halted operations in 2008.

This Mooney M20K 231 has a long list of high-quality parts and components that will be available very soon. We will get a good list of avionics updated here as soon as possible.

The McCauley prop and the uAvionix tail beacon are in great shape and can be made available quickly.
