New In The Aircraft Salvage Hangar - October 30 2023

Posted by BAS | Aircraft Salvage Experts on Oct 30th 2023

The BAS Mechanic Team has been hard at work getting back in the swing of things since being in the BAS Kansas City airfield for a week. It takes a week or so to get the unloading done and the special requests out of the way before they can reset the disassembly hangar with the right units. But once they do, look out! They will get moving quickly to get some inventory off the ramp and on the parts shelves ready for delivery. This week is full speed ahead on a Monday morning before the sun has risen in Colorado. The team is hard at it with a healthy mix of wrecked aircraft to disassemble this week.

We will get the blog post updated with a solid list of high-demand parts for each unit as soon as we make a little progress in the shop. As always, call us ASAP if we can be of service: 970-313-4823

1981 Cessna R182 Skylane

We have that coveted Cessna 182 with the retractable gear in the shop this week. Definitely on the list of most popular aircraft of all time, this R182 is a variant of the Cessna model that was in production from 1956 to 2012. The Skylane variant was introduced in 1957. And the model got a big revision with the 1996 model. The R182 variation, with retractable gear, was only available from 1978 to 1986. The R182 is also known as the "Skylane RG".

This particular Cessna Skylane RG was involved in a tornado. The tornado won, so we bought the aircraft to surgically remove the huge quantity of salvageable and serviceable parts that remain with the airplane. We will get a ton of sought-after Cessna R182 parts from this aircraft. If you are in need, you better hurry.

2002 Piper PA-46-350P Malibu/Mirage

The Piper PA-46 is a popular line of aircraft in production since 1983. The PA-46-350P Malibu Mirage comes with a 350hp Lycoming engine and a sweet array of Garmin avionics. It is a pressurized aircraft with a capacity for the pilot and five passengers. BAS Part Sales has rapidly become your leading source for PA46 parts of all shapes and sizes. This is a widely popular aircraft, and we have the inventory to keep you in the air for years to come. The PA-46 even made our Top 10 High-Performance Aircraft list.

This particular PA-46-350P Malibu Matrix had a hard landing with a prop strike. No one was injured, but the airplane was totaled, and we are pulling hundreds of in-demand parts from the airplane. Our mechanics are already hard at work on this unit, and the parts will be available for sale on our website very soon.

1965 Piper PA-24-400 Comanche

The Comanche has an interesting back story. It was the heart of the Piper lineup from 1965 until 1972 when a flood destroyed the production lines. The Comanche had 3 variations at the time, and all production ended in 1972 when Hurricane Agnes caused the Susquehanna River to flood in 1972. The flood waters destroyed everything Piper needed to produce the Comanche line - airframes, parts, and most of the tooling needed to build them. Pipe chose to move forward with two newer models, and the Comanche production was halted.

Only 148 Piper PA-24-400 Comache's were built with a 400hp horizontally opposed eight-cylinder Lycoming engine. The engine in this airplane is impressive. We will publish more pictures once the mechanic team removes it from the airframe. The Piper Comanche 400 has some impressive speeds, with 185 kn (213 mph) cruising and a top speed of 194 kn (223 mph). Interestingly enough, country music singer Patsy Cline was killed in a PA-24 crash in 1963.

This PA-24-400 had a gear collapse on landing, causing a prop strike. We will get an enormous number of parts and components from this airplane. If you are in need of those super-specific Piper PA-24-400 Comanche parts, call us ASAP!

Here is a great article about the Piper Comanche from Plane and Pilot Magazine - read more
