New Arrival in the BAS Turbine Hangar: Mitsubishi MU-300
The MU-300 first flew on August 29, 1978, as an all-new design intended to sit above the MU-2 in Mitsubishi’s lineup. Built with a low-wing configuration and powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D engines mounted on the rear fuselage, the Diamond featured a supercritical wing designed to reduce drag and improve cruise efficiency. Certified under FAA Part 25 regulations, the program faced delays due to evolving certification requirements, but ultimately secured approval in 1981. Mitsubishi produced 97 MU-300s before transferring production rights to Beechcraft in 1985.

Mitsubishi MU-300
After Beechcraft acquired the program, the aircraft continued production as the Beechjet 400, later rebranded as the Hawker 400. Over time, the platform saw multiple refinements including increased gross weight, upgraded avionics, and interior enhancements. Military variants such as the T-1 Jayhawk were developed for the U.S. Air Force, further proving the design’s durability and adaptability. In total, more than 900 aircraft across all variants were delivered, solidifying the MU-300’s legacy in both corporate and military aviation.
Supporting the Fleet Through Quality Parts
Performance-wise, the aircraft carved out a strong reputation in the light jet category. It cruises comfortably in the Mach 0.71 to 0.76 range and typically operates missions between 1.5 and 3 hours, making it ideal for regional corporate travel. With seating for up to eight passengers in a pressurized cabin and a two-pilot flight deck, the MU-300 and its successors became popular with corporate operators, charter fleets, and fractional ownership programs around the world.
Now, as this Mitsubishi MU-300 begins its next chapter in our hangar, we are documenting and preserving the components that made this platform such a success. This aircraft represents the starting point of a lineage that remained in production for more than three decades.
